Week 1 - Mindset & Beliefs

Perhaps you’ll begin this first night feeling, awkward, alone and scared. These are absolutely normal feelings and you won’t be alone. In a comforting, safe and confidential space, you’ll begin the Rebuilding process by beginning with understanding your hidden belief system that has unconsciously guided you down a path that is painful. In this first class you will begin to see how your fundamental mindset can change AND understand how it impacted your Ex and your relationship. During the class, you’ll meet the other participants, volunteers, and leaders that will share this journey with you. You’ll begin to relax, make new acquaintances and see a glimmer of hope for a healthy and satisfying life as a single person.

Week 2 - Adaptation: Changing Relationship Patterns

Tonight, you’ll receive the results of the Fisher Divorce Adjustment Scale. You’ll see a profile of yourself detailing several aspects of your life such as emotional disentanglement from your former love partner and your openness to social intimacy. The results are precisely presented and depict the areas that need the most work. And you might be pleasantly surprised at some of the strengths you’ve already developed. Then, the class switches gears and focuses on the healthy and unhealthy adaptive behaviors that have helped you survive life so far. You’ll get to know yourself and others in the class and have the opportunity to talk openly in small groups. You’ll begin to build a network of support with classmates and others in your life.

Week 3 - Cleansing Through Grief

Sometimes considered to be one of the most difficult yet freeing sessions, this important class teaches you to understand grief and YOUR grieving process. You’ll learn to recognize and understand the symptoms of grieving and the importance of self-care. Then you will dopowerful exercises designed to help you Let Go of your past relationship.

Week 4 - Anger: Releasing Your Anger About the Past

In this session, you will explore anger and understand the SOURCE of your anger and how to release it. You’ll learn to USE anger in a healthy, respectful way to as you work lingering relationship issues. Discover new skills to cope with anger and how to reduce the harmful anger in your life. Finally, positive ways to express anger will be discussed.

Week 5 - Openness

We protect ourselves from the world in order to "get through it". In this class you will learn how to reveal to yourself, and others, the true you. Building on the first 4 weeks, you will expand your sense of self and begin to "open" to a new possibility. You will see how the protections you created have prevented you from being the person that you have wanted to be. By uncovering these false thoughts you find freedom and growth.

Week 6 - Self Esteem

Inside all of us is an "Inner Judge and Critic". It is the voice inside our heads that beats us down. Divorce amplifies this voice. In this class you will learn how to shift the conversation inside of you. You will learn to see yourself in a new way that breathes new life into the very person that you need most in life - yourself. This class is powerful in that you will learn tools and information that you will use everyday, for the rest of your life.

Image

Week 7 - Love

So many people "lose themselves" in their relationship. They give everything with the hope for receiving the same. In this class you will learn how to love yourself first and then you can effectively give what you have for yourself. This is also a powerful week because participants begin to see how the previous weeks culminate in creating a powerful sense of self and incorporating this new "you" into loving ourselves. Finally, you’ll explore various definitions of love and perhaps gain a fresh perspective on love itself.

Week 8 - Communication

As you turn the corner from looking inward we begin to explore the view around us. It begins with communication. Communication is easy when things are going well. Healthy relationships are built on healthy communication. It is a skill that must be learned so we spend time learning how to use breakdowns as breakthroughs.

Image

Week 9 - Friendships, Intimacy, Trust

As you turn your attention to new friendships and potentially intimate relationships in the future you will begin to explore the foundations of healthy relationships. What IS true intimacy? It is not physical - there is much more to it. So you will again incorporate all of the previous classes into expanding your understanding of intimacy both in non-romantic friendships and romantic relationships when you are ready. Trust is also explored as it is often misunderstood and misused.

Week 10 - Purpose

You have grown immeasurably in these last 9 weeks. Now it is time to move forward. There is excitement and strength. What will you do with this new opportunity for your life? You have built amazing friendships and connections with people in your class. You will reflect on your growth and design a future that has a purpose and meaning.

NOTE: The above schedule is an example of the Rebuilding Workshop curriculum. Your facilitator may adapt the curriculum based on their training, experience, and the needs of participants in the class.
